The Shippo Cup is a modular set of cups designed to engage people to interact with their home objects. Inspired by the traditional Japanese pattern, Shippou, the cups are designed to be flipped upside down, matching with each other like a jigsaw puzzle
2022/ Exchange Study at TAMA Art University
Designed in collaboration with Kana Endo (Oil Painting).
Slip Casting Process
Based on the pattern, the cups can be flipped up and down to match together like a puzzle. The form is a simple transition of geometry but creates playfulness through simple movement.
The surface airbrush painting creates a matte, gradient finish. The blue gradient gives a modern touch to the minimal cup design. The tray uses CNC milling to engrave patterns, and with a smooth curve on the tray, the cups can match in place.
