IDEATION
The ideation takes on the experimental approach from the brand. I came up with diverse initial concepts to highlight the softness of the duvet material. The process went on developing the tubular structure and an ergonomic top layer for a comfortable sitting experience. The final direction depicts a silhouette of a snowy mountain, which echoes the brand's origin.
SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL
In response to the issue of furniture waste, the design uses sustainable material ECONYL® from the brand, with a strategy that the entirety can be taken apart for recycling.
To show its commitment to sustainability, Moncler released a new collection ”Born to Protect”, using fabrics made with ECONYL®, a regenerated nylon derived from ocean and land waste, subsequently producing 40% less CO₂ emissions than a traditional nylon jacket.
Just like covid is omnipresent today so are concerns about the environment. This concept not only focuses on the success of the brand but also provides a sustainable solution to the upholstery furniture.
FEELING THE SNOW AT HOME
SNOW Lounge Chair uses a detachable ECONYL® cushion and adaptable 3D-printed recycled plastic seat to provide the utmost comfort and sustainability. The flexible 3D patterns can naturally adapt to one's seating position without further adjustments.
I tested by making the full scale wood frame that by adding diagonal stripes the whole structure is much more stronger and stable.
I made scaled mockups to figure out the frame structure.
The steel wireframe chair seat adapts to the user’s sitting position and tests the comfort of the seat shape.
